News from our members: Action Against Stalking

Dear Members,

We would like to share with the rest of the membership some very exciting news from our member Action Against Staking.

Here below you can find their newsletter piece:

Launch of Our Young People Service

Action Against Stalking is excited to share that they have secured funding from the National Lottery Community Fund and Carrick Futures, managed by Foundation Scotland, which will enable us to launch our dedicated service for young people in April 2025. This initiative aims to support those facing stalking while collaborating with educational institutions in Edinburgh and South Ayrshire to enhance awareness and understanding of stalking behaviours and unhealthy relationships among youths.

New Research on Adolescent Stalking

As February is typically seen as the month of romance and love, we want to remind everyone that stalking is not romantic but criminal. We have launched a campaign to break this narrative entirely, by showcasing that stalking can happen to everyone and anyone and not always within a romantic relationship. We particularly want to focus on male victims of stalking who are oftentimes missing from key discussions surrounding this type of abuse. 1 in 7 men in Scotland has reported being stalked, so male voices must be present in this arena and thanks to William, a former AAS client, he is amplifying the voices of men, by speaking out on our podcast ‘Surviving Stalking’ about his stalking victimisation and the impacts it has had on his life decades later. For change to happen, we must all work together.

We are grateful for the donation of equipment from Medica, along with the easy and accessible process of the Community Benefit Gateway, as we now have more resources to achieve our goals of supporting more stalking victim-survivors, advocating and campaigning for change, and raising awareness of the crime of stalking. Through this connection, we are also supporting our Medica colleagues with a ‘Lunch and Learn’ around stalking awareness.

Thank you for all of your support!
