In November, our Knowledge Database was updated with articles, reports, and other recent publications related to cybercrime. This year, many publications have been addressing the interaction between COVID-19 and cybercrime and the new trends in cybercrime activities caused by the pandemic. Let us take a closer look at the newest additions to the Knowledge Database.

Europol has published a report titled “Catching the virus: cybercrime, disinformation and the COVID-19 pandemic”, which focuses on the ways in which cybercriminals seek to exploit opportunities associated with so many people working from home and online.

Interpol has published a report on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on cybercrime. The report covers key COVID-related threats, such as online fraud and phishing, disruptive malware, malicious domains, data harvesting malware, and – in unison with Europol – misinformation.

ESCO, the European Cyber Security Organization, has also published a COVID-related report focusing on cybersecurity in times of the pandemic and based on surveys from across the European Union. The report highlights , an increase in fraud, cybercrime and cyber attacks in the recent months and offers  a set of recommendations “centred around investing in Europe & fostering strategic public-private partnerships, leveraging European assets & increasing R&I funding, boosting European competitiveness, and placing cybersecurity at the heart of Europe’s digital sovereignty.”

Publications on other topics, beyond the COVID-19 effects, have also been added to the Knowledge Database. Research articles on the effects of cybercrime victimization in comparison to ‘traditional’ offending as well as articles on various cybercrime victim typology theories and the human factor in cybercrime have been added to the database.

Finally, publications on widely discussed e-evidence, cyberviolence, and combatting human trafficking in the digital era can also now be found on our Knowledge Database. We hope you enjoy this month’s articles and we are looking forward to hearing your thoughts on them!
