Call for Experts on Terrorism

In January 2020, the European Commission set up the EU Centre of Expertise for Victims of Terrorism (EUCVT) to offer expertise, guidance and support to national authorities and victim support organisations.

The EUCVT will help to ensure that the EU rules on victims of terrorism are correctly applied. It will promote exchange of best practices and sharing of expertise among the practitioners and specialists across borders.

The EUCVT is set up and run by the European Commission who is assisted by a consortium of victim support associations led by Victim Support Europe. The Association française des Victimes du Terrorisme, the Fondation Lenval and ARQ National Psychotrauma Centre are partners in the consortium.

The European Network on Victims’ Rights (ENVR) has an important role when it comes to steering and supporting the activities of the EUCVT. The ENVR is a platform of government officials dealing with victims’ rights and policies. The majority of them work at the Department of Justice in the EU Member States.

Currently, the EUCVT and the ENVR are developing a General List of Experts on victims of terrorism. These experts could be individual persons and/or organisations. VSE members might be contacted by the ENVR directly to nominate experts. VSE encourages members to bring experts to the attention of the ENVR.

We also invite you to propose the experts by sending their name, position, and contact details by email to eucvt@victimsupporteurope.eu before 10 June 2020. After setting up the initial list, the EUCVT will ask the experts to provide more detailed information on skills and qualifications, work experience nature of the work, language knowledge and ability to participate in international events/meetings/training sessions held in English. Don’t hesitate to use the same email address ask any questions you might have on the EUCVT or the General List of Experts.

EU Members of VSE’s Terrorism Response Network will be contacted by VSE and the EUCVT to nominate experts for this General List too. An email with detailed information will be send to them on the 2nd of June 2020.
