A Message of Appreciation from the Communications Team of the European Commission

Dear Members

We are happy to share with you a message of appreciation from the Communications Team of the European Commission addressed to Victim Support Europe for a successful collaboration in the preparation of the Commission’s publicity campaign around the new EU Victims’ Strategy.

In May 2020, Victim Support Europe’s team was asked to assist the Commission in sourcing victims’ and experts’ testimonies to be used in developing the strategy.

Through open conversations with victims and experts, the Commission was trying to figure out what victims really need, where authorities failed to help, where things went well and what needs to be improved.

The victims answered the following questions:

  1. How was the experience when you reported your crime?
  2. For the help you received, what did it mean to you?
  3. What could have been better?

As a result, VSE has provided more than a dozen testimonies, and thus the Commission has prepared “visual quotes” that are being published on their social media channels within their campaign.

“Dear Marina, Lev,

Big thanks from DG JUST comms team for our cooperation in the last weeks.
As you probably have seen, we have published visual quotes and they were also taken over by the central Commission account. We will be monitoring the results now.
You were instrumental in getting these quotes and advising us throughout the process – many thanks again for this.

We would like to express our special Thank You to Victim Support Sweden for connecting us with some of the victims and providing important victims’ testimonies for this matter.

Following the adoption of the Strategy, VSE in collaboration with its members and partners is conducting its own campaign ‘One Voice One Cause’ that aims at explaining the EU Strategy on Victims’ Rights and reflecting on how to make the proposed measures work in practice. The campaign will last from July till Nov 2020.

More details will follow soon.

Kind regards,
VSE team
